RESOURCE PROTECTION AREA (RPA) Determination

An RPA Determination (RPAD) is conducted in order to identify the designated area of protection by means of the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act. This buffer area is 100' from a perennial water feature and serves to improve the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay and the tributaries associated with it. Any projects that occur within a property where the RPA is present will require a determination.

The Enviro-Utilities team has extensive experience in the evaluation process for RPA features. Our team looks at wetlands and streams to determine if there is a connection or contiguous flow to a perennial feature. All streams are photographed and scored utilizing the North Carolina Stream Identification Method. The method evaluates 26 different attributes, producing a score which determines the perenniality of the stream. Once the data is collected, a map can be created and a report generated.
